Moving to Arusha? What to Look for in a Long-Stay Apartment

Home  /  Journal  /  4 October 2026 · 2 min read

Arusha is one of East Africa's most liveable cities: a cool highland climate, an international community, and the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Kilimanjaro within reach. But a home that works for a two-week visit is not always one that works for two years. Here is what we suggest checking before you sign.

1. Reliable power and water

Short outages still happen across the region, and they matter far more when you work from home or have young children. Ask two questions at every viewing:

At Grand Vue, a back-up generator and borehole water supply are part of the building, not an afterthought.

2. Security you do not have to think about

Look for 24/7 manned security, controlled access and secure parking inside the compound. For families and frequent travellers, the real test is simple: would you feel comfortable leaving the apartment for a three-week field trip?

3. Space to actually live in

Long stays need more than a bed and a kitchenette. Think about:

4. Furnished or unfurnished?

If you are posted for a year or less, a furnished apartment saves shipping costs and weeks of setting up. Staying longer, or bringing your own things? Unfurnished gives you room to make it home. Grand Vue offers both across its one, two and three-bedroom residences.

5. Location and the daily commute

Njiro sits within easy reach of Arusha's diplomatic, business and lifestyle districts, while staying quiet and green. Before choosing anywhere, drive your likely commute at rush hour, not on a Sunday afternoon.

6. The view

It sounds like a luxury, but after a few months it is what you notice every morning. On a clear day, residents at Grand Vue look out over Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Our short checklist

Every apartment hunt is different. If you are planning a move to Arusha, we are happy to talk through what you need, even if it is not us.
